Write on your blog! Save the internet!

filed under ,

Here are some of the things I have looked up on Google recently!
Where do I find a good lemon rice recipe? What should I do to improve my sleep? What are the best ways to get to zero Inbox? What is the meaning of visual literacy?

All these questions were not immediately answered and I often found several resources that led to helpful videos, podcasts and books to learn more deeply about the world around us.

Everyone does this obviously, but who is providing us with these answers? It is not a search engine that is doing it. Normal people like you and I are writing online, publishing things they know about or thoughts and ideas they would like to synthesise a bit.

Connected micro-communities with their histories around a blog or website is what makes the internet the most powerful force in our world.

All that you have read online and enjoyed, has been created by someone. Someone ready to be vulnerable enough to put out their thoughts online and invite others into their minds.

People who publish on the open web are the natives of this beautiful world.

So if you have something to share, a photo, a poem, or some thoughts on a book – blog about it and save the internet.

PS: I wrote this after reading this post by Matt Mullenweg (co-founder of WordPress).

How does this compare to the vastness of commerical websites, like, eg, a news website, that might also have tips?

The news websites that I can read openly, I consider part of the open web. I think of large online publishers as some sort of collectives (although I know they dont function like that at all) that are allowing creating vast amounts of content for the general good of the public.

The control of search engines has though pushed publishers to the wall in terms of monetizing and the advertising model online is totally broken.

That said, I still think media companies (atleast the ones with roots outside the web) have not fully embraced or taken to innovating with the format of publishing.

This is a really long discussion to be honest.

Love this call for blogging. The world needs more blog posts and bloggers. Even the AI revolution that is unfolding around relies on content created by bloggers. There’s also a certain value to the written word, which no video can match.

    Long live blogging!

P.S. Does this mean that I will see more posts from bombaypirate.com in the coming days? 🙂

I am not sure about more posts on bombaypirate.com. I usually publish more when I don’t plan to publish more. 😀

I love how vulnerable and joyful (even shrieky !!!) you sound, multiple exclamation points notwithstanding. We need a little dose of joyful-hopeful to save the internet.

Exclamation point. Exclamation point. Exclamation point.
